With an invitation to bring a natural joy, curiosity, and dignity to the mat: we check in with ourselves each Monday evening and gather for gentle movement: lightly challenging and opening the tensions, protective postures, and default bodily dispositions of everyday modern living. Forms and asanas usually explored reflect back-rounds in hatha yoga, yogic breath-work, and gentle, whole body qigong movements to encourage body/mind synchronization. The goal is to walk out of the class feeling open, centered, maybe even a bit playful, and activated with a relaxed strength. All are welcome: both beginners and long-time practitioners alike! Bring your own yoga mat. Suggested donation is $12. More information on Jikoj is available at www.jikoji.org
In the continuing Yoga program at Jikoji, the current instructor is Andy Acker.
Beginning practices of yoga, qigong, and Buddhist meditation in the late 90’s, Andy has been studying mind/body, somatic, and meditative arts for nearly two decades- and loves sharing opportunities to explore more ease, gentleness, awareness, and strength. As student at Five Branches University San Jose’s Masters In Traditional Chinese Medicine program, he studies Acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, tuina massage, dietetics, and qigong (Chinese yoga) as an intern in alternative medicine. Andy has also worked as a personal fitness trainer and received an Interdisciplinary BA in Psychology, Religious Studies, & Music from Naropa University in 2005, and enjoys how these perspectives inform each other.
Start Time:
5:00 pm. Classes during Spring & Summer will be held in the “Large Zendo,” which is the last building as you walk down the steps, on the right. Please park anywhere in the Jikoji lots. If we have a group renting that week, feel free to park on the side of the road or past the wood-piles. If there is a group renting at Jikoji, class automatically defaults to the Small Zendo. Allow 10-15 minutes prior to your first visit for parking, locating the Zendo, and observing the beauty and peace of this special place.
Please drive slowly.
